Belknap is born in Damariscotta Maine. Parents were David and Louise Belknap. She attended Lincoln Academy in Newcastle Maine. When she was an undergraduate at Middlebury College (Vermont), she began to become attracted to the performing arts. Her next stop was The American Conservatory Theater where she earned a Masters of Fine Arts. Belknap has numerous television credits including characters in the series' regular role on Medical Investigation, Third Watch, ER, The Handler as well as Deadline. Also, she played guest-starring roles in Law & Order Law & Special Victims' Unit as well as Without a Trace. Belknap began her career as a feature-length film in The Reality Trap, an independent film. She appeared in Alchemy.
